Access To Work (ATW)

This scheme offers practical assistance to help disabled people enter or stay in employment on a more equal basis with their non-disabled colleagues by removing obstacles due to disability. Support is tailored to the individual to provide practical assistance to overcome barriers that you may meet at, or to and from, work.

Advice and help is offered in a flexible way that it tailored to suit the needs of the individual in a particular job.

There are a number of practical ways:

  • Support Worker to provide the necessary help, either at work (personal care to job coach & job aide) or getting to & from work (travel buddy or driver).
  • Communication support at an interview, if you have a hearing impairment.
  • A Reader at work, if you are visually impaired.
  • Help with the cost of travel to work if you find using public transport difficult.
  • Special equipment to suit your particular needs, e.g. speech operated computers, Braille keyboards etc.
  • Alteration to premises or working environment.

Referrals are made via the JobCentre Plus Disability Employment Advisor. Contact our Employment Agency for details of your local office.
