Andrew Without Ellingham, Andrew would be socially isolated and this would adversely affect his wellbeing and life chances. Andrew's Story Andrew lives independently and has no relations nearby. Since his parents have passed away he regards Ellingham as his extended family. Andrew attends our I Can Ventures service 3 days a week. Other that the support and social interaction he enjoys at Ellingham, Andrew is alone at home, with only his television for company. Even on the days he does not come, Andrew will ring with a question or because he needs a friendly voice to talk to. Ellingham have provided crucial support and encouragement to Andrew during difficult life challenges such as the loss of his parents, his dog, when his cholesterol was high and he had to follow a restricted diet, or when he is feeling anxious or unwell. As service manager Rosemary Clark explains, Ellingham provide a vital lifeline for Andrew: "Even on the days he does not come, Andrew will ring with a question for us, or because he needs reassurance or just a friendly voice to talk to." Andrew is more active, healthier and happier nowadays. Andrew enjoys routine and was initially apprehensive about trying the new activities on offer, or having new experiences that seemed out of his comfort zone. However, with encouragement and support, Andrew has fully emerged himself in the new learning opportunities and is more enthusiastic and empowered to get involved than ever. Andrew now participates in the catering enterprise, is a regular team member in the Healthy Living group, and enjoys a variety of community activities. He joined the DJ workshop earlier this year and has learnt many aspects of operating the equipment. He even acted as DJ at a recent disco. Rosemary is in no doubt how beneficial and important Ellingham's services have been for Andrew: "We are immensely proud of Andrews achievements - he is more active, healthier and happier nowadays. Without this service Andrew would be socially isolated and this would adversely affect his wellbeing and life chances. In January 2018 we will be helping Andrew to celebrate his 60th birthday and ensure he has special memories of this important milestone.
