If it were not for Ellingham, Mandy would no doubt be a prisoner in her own home with no one to socialise with and no confidence.

Mandy's Story

Mandy’s goal was to gain paid work to enable her to have some independence. She undertook catering training at Ellingham's Community Cafe, where she excelled.  After a period of work experience, Mandy gained employment with and is now a member of the catering team working as a Café Assistant.

Working in the café makes me feel good.  Earning my own money makes me feel more independent.

Mandy is thrilled with her job and all the benefits working life brings:  "Working in the café makes me feel good. My skills are improving and I have learnt to do things on my own. I am happy to have responsibilities. In the café I assist with dishing up, serving customers and cleaning. I am learning about money handling.

Earning my own money makes me feel more independent. I can go out and buy clothes and I can also treat my mum to things."

Mandy has achieved so much by being at Ellingham.  They have enhanced her life.

Mandy's mum Sylvia feels Ellingham's service has been vital in improving the quality of Mandy's life:  "Mandy has achieved so much by being at Ellingham for which we are very grateful.  They have enhanced Mandy’s life and she is all the better for all the help and support that everyone at Ellingham have provided for her.

All the staff are very helpful to my daughter and they listen and understand.  They care for their clients as well as their carers.

If it were not for Ellingham and our daughter attending there, she would no doubt be a prisoner in her own home with no one to socialise with and no confidence.

We are very grateful to Ellingham and all of the staff."
